Four People Shot at Howe Community Park – Unsanctioned Gathering Ends in Shooting
On the evening of Saturday April 18, an unapproved gathering of several hundred people at Howe Community Park in Sacramento in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade neighborhood turned violent when between 20 and 25 shots were discharged as law enforcement officers were working to clearing the area.
How It Unfolded
Just after 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department got reports reporting persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at the Arden-Arcade park. Another caller described a potential physical confrontation and individuals fleeing the scene.
A sheriff's helicopter was deployed and scanned the park but failed to identify any active disturbance.
Nonetheless, a large crowd had congregated at Howe Park for what officials called an unauthorized gathering. Officers encircled the park, illuminated the area with emergency lights, and took about 15 minutes ordering the crowd to disperse through their vehicle PA systems.
As law enforcement was clearing the area, 20 to 25 gunshots filled the night air — sending hundreds of people running in every direction.
Shooting Victims
Four shooting victims — a female and three male victims, all in their 20s — were transported to area hospitals. Two of the victims had serious injuries, one suffered moderate injuries, and one victim sustained minor injuries. Each of the four victims was in stable condition. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire was on scene and assisted at the incident scene.

The shooting was centered on the Cottage Way corridor side of click here the park near the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue in Sacramento. The nearby Home Depot was placed under temporary lockdown. here Extra shell casings were located on Cottage Way, with bullet holes found in the iron fence around the nearby Home Depot — indicating a shooter who fired southward from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot parking lot. CSI units and detectives combed the scene for evidence throughout the night.
Suspects
Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was confirmed that a suspect vehicle — a Kia — was pulled over in the Solano County area with four detainees. Sacramento County Sheriff's units were dispatched to retrieve the detainees and return them to Sacramento. Video confirmed two here shooters were involved.
